Laggies is an exceptionally dumb and surprisingly sweet film for Lynn Shelton. For most viewers, one of these traits will outweigh the other. Other than a very nice score by Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, you'll quickly forget this film has any sort of pedigree at all and stands alone as sweet-yet-forgettable rom-com fair.

Needless to say, "Laggies" is a terrible, terrible film--I don't know if I would quite call it the worst film of 2014 but it is bad enough to deserve to be part of that conversation. I do know that if I had to choose between seeing it again or rewatching "Transformers 4," i would have to ponder that question for a while before responding.

I think the future of the romantic comedy lies in the hands of directors like 2014-11-02 2015-01-26 2014-10-24 2014-09-25 2014-11-07 2014-11-02 Laggies scores more points in that it makes Megan’s fiancé perfectly likeable and charming in his own way, representing the grey zone of the milquetoast yet comfortable trap of settling for easy answers. Laggies, an affable film with quirky indie sensibilities and a great cast, explores these issues with quite a lot of charm and genuine humour, although its odd plotting fails to live up to its characters in the end. They’re technically indie films even though they feature movie stars, and they’re almost always fairly tame. They’re cute at best and forgettable at worst, and Lynn Shelton ’s Laggies has True to its title, “Laggies” lags a bit at 100 minutes, especially in the home stretch, which shamelessly packs in a drunk-driving incident, an airport climax and a prom-night denouement. I was surprised.

I was surprised. with a fantastic cast and director, this was a solid film, which is both a comedy with laughs but focuses on a woman who is struggling with her life.
